The late, great Steve McQueen has been in the headlines of late. After Persol announced the re-release of the actor’s iconic 714 sunglasses, Triumph is celebrating the actor with its own limited release.

The famed British manufacturer has launched the Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition. The two-wheel racer pays homage to the bike McQueen rode in the classic war flick The Great Escape. 

For those too young to remember, The Great Escape is based on the true story of a mass escape from a German POW camp. In the film, McQueen plays “The Cooler King” Captain Virgil Hilts, a prisoner who has escaped multiple times. During one attempt he tries to jump a section of wire fences on a competition-spec Triumph TR6. Unfortunately, things don’t go to plan, and Hilts is recaptured. 

Now you can look just as good as McQueen did on the bike without the worry of going to prison with the Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition. Based on the stock Scrambler XE, this limited edition has a few special extras.

The front and rear aluminum mudguards are painted in a Competition Green to resemble the color of the original bike McQueen rides and there’s a dedicated Steve McQueen tank graphic. Other aesthetic additions include a number of gold heritage Triumph logos, rushed foil knee pads, a brushed aluminum Monza fuel cap, hand-painted gold lining, and a brushed stainless steel tank strap. 

The 1200cc Bonneville twin engine is nice and powerful and pumps out 89 horsepower and 81 pound-feet of torque via a six-speed gearbox. The Scrambler has six riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, Rider Configurable, Off-Road, and Off-Road Pro), Brembo M50 brakes with optimized cornering switchable ABS, and torque-assist clutch.

Each bike comes with a unique certificate of authentication, which is Steve McQueen’s signature etched into the handlebar clamp along with the production number of the bike.
