Nicholas Cage Spews Profanities In 'History Of Swear Words' Trailer

No stranger to swearing, eccentric actor Nicholas Cage is taking fans on a journey through the history of profanities with his new doco series. Appropriately titled, History Of Swear Words, the Netflix original finds Cage exploring the origins of swearing and the power of naughty words.

If the trailer is anything to go by, History Of Swear Words is set to be a riot, with the opening 10 seconds featuring Cage imitating his character from Deadfall and screaming “Fuck!” The trailer goes on to show how many believed fuck was an acronym derived from the phrase, Fornication Under Consent of the King, and details how swearing can help you keep your hand in a bucket of ice-cold water longer than by not swearing. Science hey? The official synopsis is as follows:

An education in expletives: the history lesson you didn’t know you needed. History Of Swear Words, hosted by Nicolas Cage, is a loud and proudly profane series that explores the origins, pop culture-usage, science and cultural impact of curse words. Through interviews with experts in etymology, pop culture, historians and entertainers, the six-episode series dives into the origins of “F**k,” “Sh*t,” “B*tch,” “D**k,” “Pu**y,” and “Damn.”

The six episodes series features Cage interviewing celebrities and etymologists (people who study words) about obscenities, including the likes of Sarah Silverman, Jim Jefferies, Nikki Glaser, and Nick Offerman, along with science folk Benjamin Bergen (PhD, Cognitive Scientist, Author of What The F), Mireille Miller-Young (PhD, Professor of Feminist Studies), and Melissa Mohr (PhD, Author of Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing).

This History Of Swear Words premieres January 5, 2021. Check out the expletive-filled trailer below, but be sure to keep the volume down if you’re in public.
