Taylor Swift Tops Billboard's Highest Paid Artists of 2020
Taylor Swift became the first artist to top Billboard’s highest earner charts without any concert revenue in 2020. Thanks to the pandemic, the majority of artists couldn’t tour, instead, relying on other forms of income, mainly streaming and merchandise.
The Shake It Off songstress managed to pull in a cool $23.8 million last year thanks mainly to streaming royalties. Her two 2020 albums, Folklore and Evermore, made $20.3 million alone, demonstrating just how much Swift relied on streaming to make money last year.
Following hot on her heels was Post Malone who made an impressive $23.2 million. Malone was one of the few artists who made cashola from touring last year, raking in $12.4 million from his sold-out North American shows. Other notable modern superstars to make the list include Billie Eilish ($14.7 million), Drake ($14.2 million), and Lil Baby ($11.7 million).
As you would expect, a number of classic rock acts also made dough. The Beatles ($12.9 million) and Queen ($13.2 million) both feature, while Canadian singer Celine Dion managed to come in third with $17.5 million. Interestingly she made $17 million from 23 shows of her Courage World Tour, meaning she made more from live touring in 2020 than any other artist.
