HBO Just Dropped A Trailer For The New Tiger Woods Doco
HBO has given golf fans an extra Christmas present this year after dropping a trailer for their forthcoming Tiger Woods documentary.
The two-part series, imaginatively titled Tiger, is a warts and all look at the rise and fall of Woods, considered by the greatest golfer of all time. The hotly anticipated doco traces Woods meteoric rise through the golfing ranks as he wins championships across the world, culminating in Tiger claiming the number one spot as the world’s best golfer. It also focuses on the personal trauma that led to him walking away from the game he loves, before his dramatic return a few years back.
“Few global icons are more visible and less understood than Tiger Woods,” says Peter Nelson, HBO Sports Executive Vice President.
“His prodigy came with painstaking sacrifice – his perfected athleticism immobilized him in agony before the age of 40; his self-made fame enabled a self-destructive world of secrecy; his redemptive re-emergence posed as many questions as it answered.”
Tiger is produced by Alex Gibney (Billions, Dirty Money, The Armstrong Lie) and based upon the tell-all biography Tiger Woods written by journalists Armen Keteyian and Jeff Benedic. While Woods isn’t directly involved in the project, the documentary does include interviews with a wide range of people who know Woods intimately, such as his former caddy and close friend Steve William, Woods’ first love Dina Parr, golfing legend Sir Nick Faldo, and Rachel Uchitel, the former hostess who was outed as Wood’s mistress in 2010 when the Nike ambassador become embroiled in a cheating scandal that destroyed his marriage, career and image.
While the trailer does hint at Tiger being a story about redemption, it will be interesting to see how Woods is portrayed and the overall picture the doco paints of the golfing legend.
