7. Vallarpadam Church:
The Vallarpadam Church was built in the 15th century and was dedicated to Mother Mary. During the 15th century, the Dutch came and destroyed all catholic buildings including this church. It was reconstructed during the late 16th century and presently stands strong in Cochin, Kerala. The Union Government of India called this church a very sacred one.
National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom At Vallarpadam is considered to be very sacred and is the only apparition of mother Mary in India that is approved by the Holy See. The Mother Mary of Vallarpadam is said to have saved hundreds of devotees over time in violent storms. A heavy flood destroyed the church which was built by the Portuguese. Merchants brought the picture of Infant Jesus and mother Mary under the leadership of Vasco Da Gama in 1524.
