Sunspel Swim Shorts

Sunspel Swim Shorts

British brand Sunspel have been going strong for over 150 years and, just in time for holiday season, have released a range of shorts that are inspired by fellow British icon, James Bond. The idea for the range came back in 2012, when Sunspel was asked to recreate the iconic swim shorts worn by Sean Connery in his role as James Bond for the exhibition ‘Designing 007: Fifty Years of Bond Style’ at London’s Barbican.

The label’s association with Bond dates back to 2006, when costume designer Lindy Hemming asked the brand to create polo shirts and t-shirts for the film Casino Royale.

Hemming says “I thought it would be a perfect collaboration of quality and Britishness to ask Sunspel to create all of Bond’s t-shirts, polo shirts and underwear – which they did so excellently. He looks very sexy and happy in their clothing.”

The highlight of the resulting collaboration was the Riviera polo, which was designed exclusively for Daniel Craig to wear in the film and has gone on to become one of the label’s best selling and most iconic styles.

The new Bond-inspired Sunspel swim shorts are made from a matte fabric and lined with a superfine functional mesh. This time around inspiration was derived from photos of arguably the best James Bond to date, Sean Connery, relaxing on the set of Dr. No.

Though intended as swim shorts they have been designed to mimic the appearance of a tailored chino short, so are versatile enough to transcend from pool to bar. The shorts cost £120 and come in three timeless colour ways: navy, black and sky blue.

Sunspel is all about creating luxury basics from the finest quality fabrics, and these shorts certainly adhere to those ideals.

You can buy them online at Sunspel.com and in all Sunspel stores.
