Watch the First Trailer for Ridley Scott's True Crime Drama 'House of Gucci'
The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s true crime epic about the assassination of Maurizio Gucci has dropped. House of Gucci details the rise and fall of the Gucci empire over three decades as key family members fight for control of the fashion giant.
Adam Driver headlines a stacked cast as Maurizio Gucci, the former head of the House of Gucci. Maurizio spent years in court trying to wrestle control of the company from his uncle Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino), eventually driving the fashion house into the ground with his elaborate spending.
Much of this can be attributed to his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, who would go on to have her husband assassinated two years after he sold his shares in Gucci in 1993. Reggiani was tried and convicted of Maurizio’s murder and sentenced to 29 years in jail, of which she served 18 before her release in 2016.
The trailer has a very 80s feel thanks to the use of Blondie’s Heart of Glass and the outrageous outfits. It’s also noticeable for Jared Leto once again looking for an Oscar, with the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman almost unrecognizable as the overweight Paolo Gucci. Paolo was the son of Aldo and like Maurizio, nearly ruined Gucci thanks to several lawsuits he filed against his father and cousin. Jeremy Irons also pops up as Rodolfo Gucci, father of Maurizio.
The movie is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden, with a script by Roberto Bentivegna.
House of Gucci is set to hit cinemas on November 24.
