Stussy Deluxe Clothing: AW13 Collection

Stussy Deluxe AW13

When it comes to this season’s streetwear trends, it’s as if the 1990s never went away. In some sense, the decade’s focus on practicality – be it the ever-versatile and warm flannel shirt, relaxed low-rise boot cut jeans or the snapback cap – never entirely disappeared and was absorbed by the noughties, but within the new Stussy Deluxe AW13 collection, the utilitarian street look is back in full force. The Japanese-made premium streetwear brand released its accompanying lookbook at the end of September. Shot by British photographer Martin Parr, the images centre around a night out in London, with both men’s and women’s looks showcased. On a purely superficial level, the bomber jackets, low-slung jeans and floral-meets-camo patterns allude to a late 1990s urban archetype. However, Stussy has managed to create an autumn/winter collection that exceeds appearances. Although on trend, each piece has been built to last. Quilted, fishtail and military-inspired jackets are versatile and practical, whilst heavyweight canvas chinos can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion or your personal style. Fabrics were designed to handle long-term use. For instance, a special blend of cotton, polyester and polyurethane prevents the selvage corduroy button-down shirt from unravelling or fraying. Coming in a choice of rich, on trend shades such as burnt orange and burgundy, the shirt provides the durability and style kudos men crave from cold weather clothing. The ‘New Boot’ – a collaboration between Stussy Deluxe and Be Positive – is another highlight. What appears unassuming on the surface is, in fact, a warm wool upper combined with a thick and durable Vibram sole, complete with a slick polished black/brown leather finish. The new Stussy Deluxe AW13 collection is available in all Stussy Chapter stores and online.
