Oakley x Ferrari Sunglasses
Oakley And Ferrari Launch Partnership
Oakley’s sponsorship of Ferrari was reignited recently as the pair unveiled the latest model in the eight-piece Scuderia sunglasses range.
The long term deal, first announced in November 2013, was brought to a head at the Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona with the reveal of the Scuderia Ferrari Carbon Blade.
Oakley’s collection combines eyewear with engineering as part of the Ferrari Motorsport Division’s biggest global partnership to date.
The performance model features an ultra lightweight carbon fibre frame with titanium forged hinges. According to Oakley’s design engineer, Ryan Calilung, the biggest inspiration can be seen in the materials used.
“Carbon fibre has been used before in eyewear, but never in this way. Rather than shaping pieces from flat rigid plates, we moulded the carbon layers into a flexible frame structure, creating a highly engineered solution.” The brand is currently the official optical outfitter for Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, alongside Kimi Raikkonen, Marc Gene and Pedro De La Rosa, who also wear the brand.
The Ferrari logo has been laser-etched onto the lenses in the same way Oakley’s is carried on the team’s helmets and hats.
Prices for the full range start at £115 for the Special Edition Scuderia Ferrari Fuel Cell glasses. The Carbon Blade version – which come in a single black with red colour – is the most expensive at £335.
The sunglasses are available to order online now, with shipping due to begin next month.
