Triumph & Disaster

There’s a lovely story behind the birth of New Zealand based grooming brand Triumph & Disaster – you might remember the brand’s mention in our Mensphere article from April. At a time when founder Dion Nash was ‘butting heads’ with his own dad, he recalls his father handing him a poem that detailed a fictional father’s advice to his son. The poem – IF by Rudyard Kipling, if you were wondering – was rich in the values of humility, honour, risk and rewards. These values, though defaced and discarded by Nash’s thirteen year old self, would become the founding principles of his new brand more than two decades later; not to mention supplying the brand name as well, taken from the lines “if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same”. In Nash’s own words, the values outlined by Rudyard moulded the brand in to one set to remind us that being well groomed is something to be proud of. Their philosophy is to use a mix of the best of science and nature to produce naturally derived but scientifically engineered products.
