Jack Wills Clothing: AW13 Collection

Jack Wills AW13 Collection

Following a trend amongst high street retailers, Jack Wills is looking to distance itself from its Abercrombie and Fitch-esque roots with an autumn/winter collection that focuses on classic casual style with a heritage influence, instead of sweatpants and garish logos. Alongside other retailers such as Superdry and G-Star, Jack Wills has moved away from its signature look and takes big cues from FashionBeans‘ ethos of timeless style to deliver a collection that has a much more mature feel. However, Jack Wills has by no means left its youthful style behind. Classic pieces are brightened up with bold touches that add a sense of fun to the collection: the checked shirt incorporates a statement colour palette that creates a dazzling contrast whilst a traditional waxed jacket is given a new lease of life in a bold shade of orange. On trend patterned knitwear naturally fits within this look, although the brand have stayed faithful to classic patterns such as herringbone and Fair Isle. These brighter pieces are played against a heavily textured heritage style that epitomises the British aesthetic that Jack Wills has long sought after. Tweed jackets, heavy cable knitwear and brogues ooze classic British style and work well as a backdrop for the brighter pieces to shine – the perfect fusion of classic and contemporary. Jack Wills’ style has come on in leaps and bounds in this new collection, presenting a more grown-up approach to men’s style. However, as many brands, including Jack Wills, move away from their roots, it leaves open the question about whether something is being lost as men’s fashion becomes increasingly homogeneous.
