Matthew Miller x Ben Sherman Clothing

Matthew Miller x Ben Sherman SS14 Collection

Ben Sherman has teamed up with rising design star Matthew Miller for several new takes on its classic shirts. The six-piece line, which also features t-shirts, plays with the brand’s signature navy, red and white check patterns. Sherman’s trademark look has been stretched, faded and altered as part of the collaboration with Miller, who worked for the likes of Umbro before founding his own label. Variations of the staple check have been applied the bottom half of white Oxford shirts, t-shirts and a light four-button mac, with Miller’s trademark DGF badge, which stands for ‘Disaffected Generation Forever’, appearing throughout. The joining of two British names ties in with the theme of national heritage, with St George’s Day taking place next Wednesday. Mark Maidment, CEO of Ben Sherman, described Miller as “a down-to-earth, unassuming and hard-working lad with strong, clear ideas and that’s our kind of person”. Since graduation from the Royal College of Art, the young designer has built a reputation for producing both sportswear and tailoring, working with brands such as Grenson and Oliver Sweeney. The London Collections: Men alumni is known for his use of engineered digital prints and performance fabrics, evident in the new line. Miller said: “I knew it was a brand [Ben Sherman] which had youth and rebellion at its core… I now know it’s a brand with youth and rebellion in its DNA.” The collection is part of the heritage label’s spring/summer 2014 offering, which will be available from April 22nd. At launch, t-shirts will cost £80, shirts £175 and the jacket £595. For more information, visit BenSherman.com.
