Who is Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of superheroes that appear in Marvel Comics. Their first appearance came in 1969. Even though this comic had strong sales, it would be five years until a follow up was released.

It was until the 1990’s that the Guardians of the Galaxy got their own self-titled issue and it ran for 62 issues and ran until 1995. That brings us to the Guardians of the Galaxy that we know today. The second volume of Guardians of the Galaxy was issued in May of 2008 and was written by Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy were formed by Peter Quill, better known as Starlord. He is a human/alien cyborg hybrid and is an intergalactic war veteran. Starlord decides to form a group of heroes that will be proactive in protecting the galaxy. One of the members of the team that he created is named Groot.
