Because Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS is a dangerous chemical that is used in more than 80% of toothpaste brands across the world and is linked to oral sores and allergic reactions.
Fortunately for us, this ingredient does not play any role in maintaining the cleanliness of our teeth and hence can be avoided. What is an SLS Free Toothpaste and Why Is It Good For You?
The reason why SLS is commonly used in hygiene-related products like a toothpaste is for its foaming properties. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is responsible for creating that cloudy foam in your mouth when you start brushing. Many people believe that this foaming action is what keeps your mouth clean. However, experts proved this wrong and even suggested that SLS can ruin the tooth enamel and increase the risk of hypersensitivity.
This is where a toothpaste without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate makes a key difference. Although it gives a little or no foam compared to an SLS paste, it works well on your teeth, sans the bad effects. So, it’s clear that you cannot risk the health of your family and yourself with a regular toothpaste and must make better-informed choices in future.
How to Use a Non-SLS Toothpaste?
There is no difference in the way you use a Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free toothpaste compared to a regular one.
- You must squeeze the tube to allow a small sample of the paste to come out. Collect this on a clean and wet toothbrush.
- Rinse your mouth and place the brush on your teeth. Gently use circular moments to deep clean your gums and teeth.
- DO NOT SWALLOW the excess product and spit it in the washbasin.
- Rinse your mouth with water thoroughly.
NOTE: Remember that, even an SLS free product is not 100% free from chemicals, especially fluoride, which can be dangerous when swallowed.
