Richard James Revamps Savile Row Flagship

Richard James Unveils New Interior

Richard James has once again thrown open the doors to his Savile Row space, revealing a completely refurbished interior. The tailor decided to revive the location he has occupied since 2000 shortly after celebrating 21 years dressing the world’s biggest names. Previously an open plan store, No.29 is now split into two distinct areas: seasonal and classic. The first contains James’ ready-to-wear designs. Naturally, classic contains the year-round collections, comprising shirts, suits and the accessories the menswear giant launched back in 1996. The two sections are divided by the store’s new central feature; a dichroic filter screen, which uses modern technology to reflect and distribute colour. The interior design was headed by Australian architect Andy Martin, who is also the creative mind behind the interiors of Quo Vadis and Barrafina in Soho. While the redesign takes the Richard James name in a more modern direction, the brand has been a presence in the tailoring district since the early 1990s. No.29 is James’ third premises, having previously been found at 37a and 31. The Brighton College of Art graduate has undertaken a number of high profile projects in recent years, including dressing David Cameron to take office as prime minister and creating a SpongeBob Squarepants capsule collection. Both the brand’s tailoring and ready-to-wear line is a favourite among male celebrities, having been worn by Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Hugh Grant and the Queen’s cousin, Viscount Linley. Richard James is due to show at this year’s London Collections: MEN on the event’s second day at 13:00pm.
