G-Shock MR-G Line Commemorates 25 Years With Samurai Inspired Timepiece
G-Shock is always dropping limited releases of its countless models, but this is the first to be inspired by feudal Japan. The MR-G line of watches is celebrating its 25th anniversary and to commemorate this milestone, G-Shock is dropping a watch that takes inspiration from the armor worn by samurai commanders.
The G-Shock MRG-B2000BS-3A Hana-Basara Edition is a unique model limited to just 400 pieces worldwide. The name Hana-Basara refers to the Basara commander spirit, with the watch a bold and striking design based on a suit of Hana-Basara armor crafted by specialist Suzukine Yuzan.

Ultra-hard Cobarion alloy, which is almost four times as hard as titanium, was used for the bezel, case, and band. This material is so hard to shape G-Shock had to call on award-winning gem cutting and carving artisan, Komatsu Kazuhito, to do the work. He used a facet-cutting technique to achieve the incredible results, with the bezel then given a dark green DLC coating.
The dial’s green, red, gold, and black color scheme is inspired by the Hana-Basara armor and features a “Kusari Katabira” (chain mail) woven pattern and a folding fan pattern on the outer dial. The case has a unique brown shade and an engraved plate commemorating the 25th anniversary of the MR-G series.
The G-Shock MRG-B2000BS-3A Hana-Basara Edition drops next month via G-SHOCK and is priced at $8,000.
