Band Of Outsiders: Frank Ocean

Band Of Outsiders: Frank Ocean

Delivered within a series of intimate shots, Band Of Outsiders present their spring 2013 ‘Frank Ocean Polaroid’ campaign. Showcasing both the clothing and the artist with an everyday simplicity, the selection of images burst with as much personality as they do relevance. Shot at the Los Angeles Times Building on March 12th 2013, it appears that Ocean is as much of a natural in front of the camera as he is with a microphone. Modelled effortlessly throughout, the clothing appears current and cool. Whilst an awareness of spring trends can be identified, each piece asks for much more than a seasonal trend breakdown. Every polaroid elevates the entire frame’s contents and acts as the perfect example of emotive fashion photography. Working in a strong palette of white, red and black formality by way of shirts and suits meanders its way throughout the collection, whilst more casual sweats and chinos maintain an urban feel. Wearable prints are carefully considered, with sketched summery boats appearing on selected items. For those who like to make a statement, bolder tribal prints cover entire outfits and appear transformed on polos in oxblood and black hues. Highlights from the collection include the colourful printed suit and the boat print shirt. However the most interesting and provocative pieces are the red and white macs. Although relatively simple in design, these pieces aid in producing the strongest shots within the entire campaign – exemplify shining photography as well as thought provoking fashion.
