Awake Clothing By Angelo Basque
Supreme’s Angelo Basque Presents Awake
Clothing brand Supreme turns nineteen this year, and like many teenagers concerns itself largely with skateboarding, hip-hop and care-free youth culture. With stores in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo, among other major cities, and celebrity fans including Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Mos Def, Supreme’s brand presence has never been more vibrant or more visible. Not quite satisfied with helping the street wear giants achieve global success, Supreme marketing manager Angelo Basque has unveiled his very own clothing line for spring/summer 2013, named Awake. The pieces shown from the new brand reveal Basque sticking with what he knows – the pieces are fresh, light and have their finger firmly on the pulse of contemporary street wear influences. Although the collection is currently very small, the items shown should be enough to excite any member of Supreme’s target demographic. Some of the unorthodox items featured in the lookbook include a half grey/half camouflage hoodie (a collaboration with Massachusetts-based clothiers Penfield) shown paired a bold, chequered bucket hat; a white hoodie emblazoned with the brand name in rainbow print below a graphic of a speeding runner; and the clear highlight of the collection – a white crew neck t-shirt with rolled sleeves and a blue monochromatic front graphic of a sullen-looking Woody Allen. Basque’s fascination with prints and patterns was already well known from his work with Supreme, and Awake looks to be a spin-off project which will allow him to explore that in depth without alienating the less adventurous members of his fan base. The Awake SS13 collection is available now online from Ships LTD.
