Audi Q5 Sportback with OLED Tech

If you thought the battle for display tech supremacy was exclusively waged over TVs and computer monitors, then you’d be wrong. With two all-new models hitting the road in the first half of 2021, Audi presents a captivating and powerful vehicle in a package best described as sporty, practical, and elegant. American drivers will get their hands around the steering wheel when they roll off the assembly line from the San José Chiapa plant in Mexico, coming over the border to provide everyday utility and unrivaled performance.

So let’s talk about the OLED tech that has found its way from LG into the new line up of Q5 Sportbacks’. Unlike typical OLED panels, Audi employs DIGITAL OLED technology, which increases the number of segments per OLED panel, for an overall brighter and more flexible operation. Using extremely efficient organic light-emitting diodes, the rear lights employ digital OLED technology to generate a homogenous light surface.

Split into three tiles of six segments each; the OLED taillight enables Audi designers and developers to create different light designs and signatures from a single piece of hardware.

Perhaps paving the way for a more interactive and engaging driving experience beyond just blaring your horn at the cars in front, the rear lights can illuminate different OLEDs combinations to communicate messages to drivers in the rear. Each segment can be adjusted individually, as well as the brightness, to develop particular lighting signatures. One example is through the proximity sensor, which can activate the rear lights for an additional warning.

Plus, everyone on the road will know precisely when you engage sport mode, as the lights automatically switch over to a Sportif graphic, giving you a dynamic lighting signature as you zoom past.
