Universal Works: Workshop Denim Jeans
Universal Works Launches Workshop Denim Range
UK-based Universal Works made its denim debut today with a mini-range of five-pocket jeans. The made-in-England line aims to reign in the international arm of menswear, bringing production back into Europe.
The brand, which previously only offered Boncoura jeans by designer Hiasashi Morishima online, is rolling out two specific fits under its Workshop Denim initiative. A regular relaxed, workwear-inspired fit sits alongside a straighter-legged slim-fit.
Universal Works goal is to deliver something different in the American and Japanese-dominated world of jeans. The 13oz raw denim has been sourced from Portugal, where it was manufactured on vintage narrow looms.
Founded in 2008, the company speaks of a desire to deliver “humble, modest and honest” garments.
“We have decided to keep things simple; making a European Jean… that still take into account the needs of contemporary man, keeping them unwashed so you can make them your own, and selling them at the best possible price.”
The jeans include original denim design features such as the coin pocket and yellow stitching. Other details include unbranded rivets, a unique pocket shape and an inside-stitched ‘ghost patch’ label, to ensure the styles remain unbranded on the outside.
Both fits of jeans retail at £135. The collection is available exclusively at Oi Polloi and Peggs & Son from today as well as online at UniversalWorks.co.uk.
