Thom Browne Menswear: SS14 Collection

Thom Browne Spring/Summer 2014

American designer Thom Browne has revealed the SS14 lookbook from his namesake label. The military-inspired offering sees strict tailoring, suiting and cropped pieces put together with classic tongue-in-cheek humour.

The designer’s skill for suiting is seen in double-breasted jackets, Western pocket detailing and exaggerated padded shoulders. Sleeves and epaulettes are embroidered with gold and silver threads and brass buttons picked up at every opportunity.

Browne’s signature black and white dinner jacket sits alongside a Prince of Wales check suit, in contrast to a tri-colour two-piece, which makes full use of cut and paste techniques.

The cut of the collection draws from the rigid nature of military uniforms, even where pieces are decorated with anchor motifs and other patterns.

Casual separates include drawstring waisted shorts and patterned knitwear, which are styled with tailored jackets and shirts or shorts. Such pairing was seen in last season’s collection, where athletic pieces were styled with tailored smarts.

Browne continues to keep up his identifiable offerings with more complicated and intricate custom fabrics than in previous seasons.

The Thom Browne spring/summer 2014 collection will be available at the end of January at select retailers, including oki-ni, Farfetch and MR PORTER, as well as in Thom Browne stores worldwide.
