Thalmic Lab’s MYO

Thalmic Lab‘s MYO

Let me set a scene: candles are burning, the smell of great cooking wafts from the kitchen, some smooth music hovers in the room (hopefully Frank Sinatra but maybe you’re a little more experimental then that) as you seat your date for the evening opposite you and your incredible outfit – hinting at just the right amount of sprezzatura. However – suddenly – the mood is broken by that pesky shuffle setting, and now your boeuf bourguignon has to be brought out to MC Hammer and his untouchable self. Well no longer does this galling and all too likely scenario have to afflict your love life! Thanks to MYO, with a subtle flick of the wrist the music is cut and you enter with all the gravitas you deserve. Canadian design lab Thalmic have managed to come up with a product that seems set to revolutionise how we interact with our ever-growing plethora of gadgets – and it looks phenomenal. By minutely sensing muscle movements the MYO band sends signals to your device of choice, substituting movement for any number of taps and clicks. This is not just play and pause stuff. Mouse movements, screen swipes – total control can be rendered though this thing. It also has a great aesthetic, with simple block-colouring and a segmented design that is as modern and clean as any Apple product. With the growing interest in wearable technology, MYO gives you control and style without the intrusiveness of Google Glasses or losing a beloved accessory to the iWatch. Fashion and style extends beyond clothing, and the elegance of interaction MYO could provide normalises technology into our everyday lives even further. Even if you don’t like how MYO looks, it’s Bluetooth, so slip it under a jacket or a shirt-sleeve and carry on with your outfit as before. Check out MYO on the official website.
