Rockstar Games Reportedly Remastering Classic 'GTA' Titles

While we might be waiting an eternity for Grand Theft Auto VI, fans of the older titles in the iconic series are in for a treat. It’s been reported by Kotaku that Rockstar Games is working on releasing remastered versions of three PS2-era GTA games.

Grand Theft Auto 3Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are the three titles being given a facelift. Rockstar is hoping on having them ready and available for players this coming October or November, with the games set to be released for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Switch, PC, Stadia, and on mobile phones.

The three games are said to be heavily modified versions of the originals using the much-heralded Unreal Engine. Each game will retain the same gameplay style while the user interface will also feature little tinkering.

It’s believed the trilogy of games was first going to be released as a bonus for those who purchased the forthcoming next-gen ports of GTA V and GTA Online, but the pandemic changed all this. Rockstar then decided they were going to drop each title earlier this year for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but have changed their minds once again, with the three games set for release on all consoles towards the end of 2021.

It’s not just GTA getting the remastered treatment either, with Western classic Red Dead Redemption also set to be updated and re-released on the next-gen consoles, although there is no timeframe for when this will occur as yet.

Grand Theft Auto 3Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are set to drop later this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Switch, PC, Stadia, and mobile phones.
