Nissan IDx Freeflow Concept Hits The Streets Soon

There’s one performance car that has really caught my eye lately: The Nissan IDx Freeflow concept. The ID represents the word, “identification”, while the letter X is meant to showcase new future values and dreams. Interesting idea considering it is a “concept” car after all..

Not much is known about it as far as specifics go, but rumors on the street are saying it’s based on the Nissan Silvia platform. As far as anybody’s guess goes the engine inside is still a total mystery..However, after some digging around I was able to find Nissan stating it’s between 1.2 and 1.5-liters in displacement.

Which did get me thinking about this.. Imagine if Nissan popped the Juke Nismo’s engine into this ride and called it a day. That’s a strong running 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with an impressive 230 horsepower at the wheel.

Pair that with a manual transmission and you have a match made in heaven. Paired with a CVT though, and it might have problems..

Where this car really shines though is in terms of the overall design and styling. It’s incredibly minimal but the subtle touches on the interior and exterior make it stand out quite well. The Nissan IDx has that iconic box shape I’ve seen from their older racing machines of the past. But it’s far from outdated, in fact, it seems almost too futuristic and that’s not a bad thing at all.

The impression I take away from it is an ultra-sporty style that’s begs to be showcased in all its glory on the race track. And surprisingly it will be!

Nissan’s Executive Vice President Andy Palmer confirmed Nissan wouldn’t build out both models, but he did state that they would put one of them into production. Could it be the modern-day Datsun 510? I can only hope so…

Andy also gave a bit of his own reasoning behind it:
