Nick Cave’s Tattoo & its Meaning

Nicholas Edward Cave is an Australian singer, screenwriter, songwriter, author, composer, and actor. He is most widely known for being the leader of the band, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He started out in the band, The Birthday Party in 1973 and joined The Bad Seeds as their frontman in 1984. Nick’s music mainly contains lyrics regarding death, religion, love, and violence. Cave also studied art before joining the music industry and still creates art pieces that are popular amongst his fans. As an author, Cave released his first book, King Ink in 1988. In 2017 he was deemed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), “For distinguished service to the performing arts as a musician, songwriter, author, and actor, nationally and internationally, and as a major contributor to Australian music culture and heritage”. Nick Cave only has one tattoo on his body that he got when he was young. Let us take a look at what it is.

1. Skull Tattoo

Tattoo: Nick’s right shoulder contains a tattoo of a skull with crossbones behind it. There is also a dagger impaling the skull from the top and small wings on either side of it. Just below the skull is a banner with the name, “ANITA” written inside it.

Meaning: Nick got this tattoo when a few years after he became the frontman with The Bad Seeds and the name Anita refers to Anita Louise Lane who was briefly a member of the band and his girlfriend at the time.
