McLaren Unveils the Track-Only 720S GT3X Hypercar

McLaren has gone all out with the track-only 720S GT3X hypercar. Free from regulations and restrictions, this race-ready animal is a special edition based on the 720S GT3.

Developed with a sleek aerodynamic design for the ultimate rush, the GT3X has a lightweight Monocage II carbon-fiber core. It also features a six-speed sequential motorsport transmission, carbon-ceramic disc brakes, an aerodynamic package, and an upgraded cooling system.

Under the hood is a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 M840T engine that’s been upgraded and enhanced to increase the hypercar’s power. There’s a blueprinted cylinder head, a new lightweight exhaust system, and strengthened pistons. It can now produce a decent 710 BHP, with a “push to pass” button enabling a further 30 BHP for those Eagles fans who like to live life in the fast line.

As you would expect, all luxurious options have been stripped from the GT3X. The carbon fiber frame is 440 pounds lighter than the road version, with the driver’s seat made from carbon and Kevlar and FIA-approved. You can also choose to add a passenger seat if you feel the need to scare the living daylights out of your significant other when taking her on a drive.

The elegant black and orange paint job is inspired by McLaren’s Formula 1 cars of the 60s. The finish is a metallic MSO Carbon Black paint with a pinstripe in McLaren Orange, which I think looks pretty spectacular.

Ian Morgan, head of McLaren Automotive’s motorsport division, said, “We’ve already got a very good GT3-based car, but we wanted to make it faster. We’re very very proud of what we’ve achieved. I hope it delivers good satisfaction to the customer and a lot of fun.”

There’s no word on how much one of these bad boys will cost, but if money is no option you can pre-order a GT3X from McLaren now.
