Kevin Hart's New Heartfelt Netflix Film 'Fatherhood' Will Have You Teary-Eyed
Kevin Hart has had quite the career in the past decade. From co-headlining the new Jumanji series with The Rock, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan to family animated features such as The Secret Life of Pets and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie – not to mention four comedy albums – Hart has proven he can make audiences around the world laugh.
This June, Hart has teamed up with Netflix to not only make you laugh, but also make you cry. And no, these aren’t “laugh-so-hard-you-cry” tears. Fatherhood is a new feature by American Pie’s Paul Weitz (from a script co-written with Dana Stevens) based on the book Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love by Matthew Logelin.
Like Logelin’s memoir, the film is about a single dad, Matthew Logelin (portrayed by Kevin Hart) who lost the love of his life right after the birth of their first child, daughter Maddy. Along the way, Logelin learns what it means to be a parent and how to continue on after such a tragic event. The trailer for the film can be seen below.
Just like the memoir on which it’s based, Fatherhood looks to be an uplifting tale. Kevin Hart’s trademark comedy seems to be in full effect here, as well as his more emotional side. If anything, this movie looks to be a real tear-jerker and one you’ll have to watch with a box of tissues close by. The official description for the film reads:
This Father’s Day weekend, Kevin Hart stars in a heartwarming, funny, and emotional true story about a widower taking on one of the toughest jobs in the world: fatherhood. Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Anthony Carrigan, and Paul Reiser round out this all-star cast.
The film was in part produced by Higher Ground Productions, a film production company started by former United States President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Higher Ground’s film Worth, starring Michael Keaton, Amy Ryan, and Stanley Tucci, premiered at Sundance last year and is set to be released publicly this September.
