How to Dress for a Court Hearing

Here’s a post on something you might never think about dressing for (and hopefully you’ll never need to). It’s one of those tricky fashion scenarios where the stakes are high if you get it wrong… so you really don’t want to get it wrong.

Court hearings are very important to take seriously, whether you’re going to give moral support for someone or if it’s for yourself. Regardless of why you are at a court hearing, it’s important that you take it seriously and that you look appropriate. Below, I’ve created some outfit ideas to help.

Outfit #1

Products: Dress Pants – Macy’s, Button Up – Lord and Taylor, Blazer – Amazon, Flats – Amazon, Necklace – JCPenney, Wallet – Express.

Dressing for a court hearing is related to dressing up for a conservative workplace, meaning you don’t want to show too much skin, no matter what you wear. To play it safe, dress pants are the best way to go. They’re comfortable and professional. On top, a nice button up shirt with a blazer shows that you mean business and that you are taking this seriously.

When it comes to shoes, again, you want to think conservative, so skip opened-toe shoes or sandals. It is, however, perfectly acceptable to wear just flats. Flats are a go-to because they’re simple but appropriate and professional.

Accessory-wise, I recommend that you lay off of the jewelry but a simple necklace is fine to wear. Also, a wallet is also fine to carry until they ask to see it.

Outfit #2

Products: Skirt – H&M, Blouse – JCPenney, Kitten Heels – Amazon, Bracelet – Avenue, Earrings – JCPenney, Wristlet – JCPenney.

No, you most definitely do not have to wear dress pants and a blazer. However, you do have to be presentable. It is totally fine to wear a skirt as long as it’s knee-length or below and not too tight.
