So, just before you make a deposit on an e-dirt bike or even pay cash, here some important factors you might want to consider.

Motors

Generally, e-dirt bikes come with hub-drive motors or mid-drive motors. The former is usually more affordable and excellent for flat terrains. On the flip side, mid-drives are typically lighter, smaller, and have greater torque than hub-drive motors. Mid-drive motors are better suited for riding up steep hills.

If you are going to do most of your revving up on difficult terrains or steep hills, an electric dirt bike with a mid-drive motor would be your best bet.

Battery

First of all, you’re not going to ride any electric dirt bike all day long. The reason for this is simple: there are no batteries that support all-day riding for now. Our current level of technology is not quite there just yet.

While you can get some models like the Cake Kalk OR to run for 3 hours on a single charge, most other brands offer far less than that. If there’s an Achilles heel for e-dirt bikes, it would be the batteries.

But that’s not such a bad thing if you want to buy one of these bikes for your teenager. I’ll suggest you consider buying a model with a lower battery capacity for your child, as that would mean they won’t be out of sight for too long. The limited battery capacity means your kid will be back home sooner to recharge the battery.

Conversely, if you’re getting one for yourself or another adult, you might want to get one with a long-lasting battery. You definitely don’t want your bike running out of juice just when you are getting the most fun out of it.

Alternatively, consider buying a model that allows for easy swapping of batteries. That means you have to invest in an extra battery and remember to bring it along when heading out for a ride.

You should also think of the battery charging time. You don’t want to spend nearly half the day “fueling” your bike. So, consider choosing one with reasonable charging time.
