David Bailey T-Shirts

David Bailey x The Bleach Room For Selfridges

Internationally acclaimed fashion photographer David Bailey CBE has collaborated with an East London design initiative to create a debut t-shirt line. The self named collaboration aims to provide fans with a rare opportunity to own and wear some the photographer’s most iconic work. Bailey’s collection, created in partnership with The Bleach Room, has been picked up exclusively by luxury department store Selfridges. The photographer pulled together a set of six collage artworks, which were printed onto the t-shirts. The designs are based on some of his most famous portraits, featuring Mick Jagger, Johnny Depp, Sir Michael Caine, Boy George, Grace Jones and John Lennon. A characteristically blunt Bailey said of his launch: “It’s not fashion; it’s just a t-shirt.” The 76-year-old, who “was never that interested in fashion” went on to tell WWD: “Not everyone can afford a print [so] it’s a nice way of making [my work available] for everyone… I think it’s quite nice that everyone can have a t-shirt that has an image with some history behind it.” The launch of Bailey’s capsule collection coincides with the opening of the Stardust exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Backed by Hugo Boss, the retrospective exhibition showcases over 250 images by the photographer and charts his career to date. The David Bailey t-shirt collection is available now at Selfridges London in women’s street and men’s contemporary, as well as online at Selfridges.com. Available only for a limited time, each piece is priced at £70.
