The Mahakal temple is the best tourist place in Darjeeling, located on the summit of the observatory hill. The temple offers a beautiful scenic view of the city. This temple is significant to Hindus and Buddhists because it was built in a Buddhist monastery before. The temple is surrounded by several small temples dedicated to Durga, Ganesh and Hanuman. The Shiva linga inside this temple also has several Buddha idols because this temple is an amalgamation of both Hinduism and Buddhism.
