G-Shock’s 'Twilight Tokyo' Watch Receives Glowing Reviews
There’s something about the soft lights of a Tokyo backdrop that speaks to calm, serenity, and peace for the folks who revel in its ambiance. The “Twilight Tokyo” G-Shock GMW-B50000PB pays homage to the Japanese landscape as well as to lo-fi trends and vaporwave aesthetics.
It’s the glow of the city lights against a violet, rose, and azur-colored sky that inspires the timepiece, bringing together the allure of a Tokyo sunset and the subdued fluorescent buzz of the city itself.
The Casio G-Shock watch is made of stainless steel but in colors that are sure to steal some attention. Complete with a stainless steel bezel and a purple ion plate, the timepiece also boasts an intricate band of gray-blue and violet links on its band.
Because the ion plating is muted, the surface is somewhat reflective in a wonderfully hazy way. The labels are orange and blue on the face of the watch, calling to mind the sultry lights that begin to emerge as the sun sets on Tokyo each and every evening.

The piece comes out of the well-known full-metal GMW-B5000 series. The watches are popular, and this one, in particular, offers shock resistance, water resistance for up to 200 meters, solar power, Bluetooth, and an LED light.
Produced by Casio, G-Shock watches are seen as fashionable pieces that tend to steal more glances than the average timepiece. The brand’s collections are particularly sought out for being able to withstand more force if dropped. The famous “Triple 10” reference alludes to 10 years of battery life, water-resistance of 10 bar, and the ability to come away unscathed should it suffer a drop of fewer than 10 meters.
The vivid hues that inspired the “Tokyo Twilight” piece are garnering attention in Japan and beyond. The final asking price in Yen is 82,500. In USD, it’s about $750. The watch is to be released in mid-September this year.
