8. Christ Church:

Christ Church was built when the British took over the Nawab of Oudh that is Nawab Shuja-ud-daullah in 1865. It suffered severe damage in 1857 during the Seize of Cawnpore as it was initially used by the Nana Sahib and then by the Britishers as a shelter. The church was however reconstructed with funds and now stands strong. Thus, the church holds masses often and is visited by locals and tourists alike.

9. Ravana Temple:

Ravana temple is one of its kind in Kanpur. Ravana, who was a follower of Lord Shiva, is worshipped here as the patron deity. Ravana was considered as an evil man for kidnapping Lord Rama’s wife Sita, during the period of Vanavasa (exile of a period of 14 years in the forest). He and his army were eventually defeated by Lord Rama and his army. In today’s time the day is considered auspicious for Hindus as they consider the end of Ravana as the end of evil, due to which every year his statue is lit on fire. Every year during Dussehra huge celebrations adds to the festivity and millions of devotees visit this shrine to worship Ravana.
