Raised platforms created by the Chipas people in Mexico were used for drying shrimp. Clay pots depicting shrimp were found in the ruins of Pompeii. In the third century ano domini, the Greek writer Athenaeuswrote that “of all the fish in the sea, the finest is a young shrimp in fig leaves.”
