OKUN Swimwear: SS14 Collection

OKUN SS14 Collection

We’re issuing you with a warning before you read any further: the following images may evoke feelings of depression and nostalgia for a summer that’s already but a distant memory. You might remember us getting excited about swimwear brand OKUN back in June when we introduced their collaboration with MULO. The two labels teamed up to great effect, producing a fantastic collection of espadrilles that perfectly captured summer in a shoe. Inspired by Africa, OKUN strives to communicate a ‘positive vibe’ through their use of bold colours and prints to produce vibrant, luxury beachwear. The brand name, taken from the Yoruba word for ‘The Ocean’, conveys their ethos for exploration, confidence and being care-free – capturing the traditional African aesthetic in a modern and innovative way. As the brand move into their second year – having previously launched in Florence, Paris and New York, as well as evolving their online retail site – they’re already setting up for spring/summer 2014. As per the brand name, the forthcoming ‘Eban’ collection is strongly influenced by West Africa. OKUN’s signature Ilé print is presented in an array of vibrant citrus colours, from orange to acid yellow and fuchsia, and there is also the addition of the new Oju print – described as ‘the eye’, ‘lucky 8’ or ‘infinity’ symbol, depending on what you like to think of it as. As the brand continues to grow, there are whispers of a ladies line and a range of Made in Africa travel accessories. Keep your eyes peeled for more news as we get it.
