New Era x Spike Lee 1996 Cap Collection
Limited Edition Hats Rereleased
Cap company New Era has revisited its relationship with American filmmaker Spike Lee, almost two decades after the pair first worked together.
The ongoing Heritage Series is getting ready to welcome a new mixed material range of snapbacks, in navy and scarlet red, to the line-up.
Two wool versions priced at £35 each and a further two in leather costing £60 will roll out under the collection named after the original year later this week.
All four feature a World Series side patch, New Era flag logo and MLB silhouetted batter logo.
The silk lining carries Lee’s repeated signature, as well as his ‘A Spike Lee Joint’ sign-off on the inner sweatband.
New Era has also announced that orders will be shipped with a limited edition red case to celebrate the original 1996 model.
Traditional Yankees caps were produced in dark navy. In the mid-1990s Lee called New Era’s CEO to request a special red edition to match a new jacket.
Once seen worn by the She’s Gotta Have It director, the sports firm was inundated with requests for replicas.
All four styles in the collection will receive their European debut on 17th July, before launching globally seven days later.
The hats will be stocked in the UK online via Size? and in New Era stores in London and Birmingham.
