Nutters of Savile Row x Peter Werth: LC:M AW13

Nutters of Savile Row x Peter Werth

Flanking the dance floor of the legendary Café de Paris, the great and good of the menswear world gathered for the final show of AW13’s London Collections: MEN at 6pm last Wednesday. The result of an exclusive collaboration between iconic tailoring house Nutters of Savile Row and luxury British knitwear label Peter Werth, the collection drew inspiration from the fun and frivolity of 60s and 70s nightlife – making the 90-year old Café de Paris a particularly apt setting for the show. With the glamorous ghosts of eras past looking down from the balconies, the show opened with typical Nutters of Savile Row flair, with the first model sent down the runway in roller skates. As expected, the cut of the tailored garments was superb, with felted wool jackets in rich red and air force blue tones formed to perfection. Most of the looks were layered with beautifully woven knitwear in a variety of soft tones and classic shades. The pairing of checked tweed-like jackets and fine-gauge knits, along with heavy-soled ankle boots, gave an impression of a country gent come to town. Trousers featured bold checks and retro-era shapes, with wide-leg and flared styles mixed with 60s lean cuts. Exaggerated width lapels are a trademark of the Savile Row house and affectionately nodded to the label’s 70s pedigree. The coats were a particular highlight, crafted from luxurious heavy wool cloths and sporting texture rich shearling collars, making them the perfect winter antidote. To close the show, the audience was treated to a street-style dance off by the models, still clad in their impeccably tailored apparel. An entertaining spectacle rigged with surprises, the show was a light-hearted and memorable way to round-off the three day showcase of the finest in men’s British design talent and innovation.
