How To Write A Two Weeks Notice Letter – Templates To Give Notice

Here is an example of a good two week notice memo, which has a slightly different format:

To: [name of supervisor]

From: [your name]

Subject: Two week notice

Date:

This is to inform you that my last day of employment with [company name] will be the [date of last day of employment].

Throughout my employment here I have learned a great deal and appreciate the time and effort spent to improve myself both professionally and personally.

If you choose to use the memo format, it is strongly recommended to follow up with the letter format above, as the letter format will be a signed document while the memo format is less formal.

Notice the language of the notification is short and direct. This is particularly important when the reason you are leaving the company are because of a conflict. In such situations, emotions tend to run high, and the opportunity presented to vent any frustration is obvious. The easiest path to resist the temptation is for you to think two weeks and one day ahead of the time you submit your two week notice.

If the departure is the result of a better opportunity, you will certainly want to take some time showing your appreciation for your time with the company and the people you worked with. Prepare to make some time outside of work for the expected get-togethers and minimize the amount of company time used to do this.

The truth is, there is no good time to leave an employer unless your time with the company is a short few months. Personal and business relationships have developed, and there is a particular routine established with your daily life as well as your finances. Breaking from the routine will take some adjustment depending on how long you have been with the company. While this part of the advice is not entirely objective, it will still be one more item you will have to deal with.
