Extra Butter x adidas Drop 'Happy Gilmore' 25th Anniversary Capsule

It’s hard to believe but it’s been 25 years since comedy classic Happy Gilmore was released. To commemorate the historic moment in golfing history when ice-hockey player turned golfer Happy Gilmore defeated nemesis Shooter McGavin to win the Tour Championship, streetwear label Extra Butter and sports brand adidas has joined forces for a Happy Gilmore themed capsule.

“Twenty-five years ago, a fictional character named Happy Gilmore broke the mold on what it meant to be a golfer, and we wanted to celebrate that with a unique collaboration and collection,” Extra Butter co-founder and chief executive, Ankur Amin said.

“Golf is growing exponentially amongst every demographic. Golfers today are more diverse and the game is more inclusive than ever before. Golf is getting younger and breaking away from its ‘dad’s game’ reputation as youth culture starts to embrace the sport. We wanted to be a part of this shift, bring our style to the sport and have fun with this project.”

This limited collection of apparel, footwear, and accessories is based around the three main characters of the film – Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, his mentor Chubbs (a brilliant Carl Weathers), and archenemy McGavin (Christopher McDonald).

Gilmore’s collection is the most basic of the lot, featuring a graphic tee, sweatpants, and cooler, with the big seller a pair of green and white slides with green felt on the footbed and an anniversary stamp in gold. This is typical weekend leisurewear for those who enjoy high-end fashion.

The Chubbs-inspired items are more course-based and include shorts, pants, and polos in pastel colors. Each item also sports an image memorializing Chubbs’ iconic line “It’s All In The Hips.” The lightweight Tech Anorak and ZG21 spiked golf shoe are the highlights, with the shoe coming in a bone-white colorway with brogue paneling that incorporates gator skin and wood-grain finishing in reference to the alligator that took Chubbs’ hand.
