After a seemingly discreet hiatus over the past few seasons, British fashion brand Basso & Brooke are branching into menswear. The original Fashion Fringe winners revealed the reason behind their absence by unveiling Basso & Brooke Studio, a menswear line made up of casual apparel and accessories. Taking over eighteen months to develop, the new line has been finished just in time for its AW13 launch. The debut range features wearable casualwear and street apparel, including t-shirts, polo shirts, blazers and knitwear. And there are no prizes for guessing that the collection is laden with signature Basso & Brooke prints. New prints going by names such as the ‘Mikado’, the ‘Power Rainbow’ and ‘Vitraux’ are even thrown in for good measure. Speaking of his brand’s development into menswear, Basso told Vogue: “Menswear is a natural progression for our label and since the very beginning is something that has been requested over and over. This label is more of a design label rather than just being restricted to fashion… It’s our laboratory for experimenting – everything that has a surface can be printed.” Exploring new terrains in print, Basso & Brooke have even whipped up designs for soft home furnishings and lifestyle items, from iPad cases, posters, stationary, bikes and bags to scented candles and light shades. This is a brand which aims to encroach from the confines of our wardrobes and cement itself firmly in our homes. The design duo has also revealed that collaborations will form a large part of the line, and are preparing for demand by relaunching their website. A new e-commerce platform launching in September will make over two hundred products available online for worldwide delivery. Current stockists include: Selfridges, Paul Smith, Harvey Nichols Hong Kong, Galeries Lafayette, The Webster Miami and LuisaViaRoma.
