The World's First Sky Pool Is Suspended 115 Feet Above the Ground

If you think the pool at Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore is impressive, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Embassy Gardens in London has just unveiled the world’s first sky pool. Suspended 115 feet above the ground, this luxurious pool has to be seen to be believed. Be warned; it’s not for the faint of heart.

The pool connects the two towers of the Embassy Gardens and is roughly 82 feet long, with 46 of those feet suspended in mid-air. The pool is heated (of course) and completely transparent, offering swimmers an interesting (or possibly terrifying) view of the streets below. If you’re afraid of heights this probably isn’t for you, but the views are impressive.

The monstrous structure was built in Colorado and transported to Texas before being shipped to London. Structural engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan and HAL Architects were brought in to make sure the creation wouldn’t come crashing down and become a PR nightmare.

Invisible steel frames keep it suspended in mid-air and the base is nearly 12 inches thick to ensure there is no cracking. The frame is eight inches thick, 10 feet deep, and weighs a massive 50 tons.

Unfortunately, you can’t just head along for a dip, with the Embassy Gardens sky pool open to members (residents and their guests) only. Apartments start from $1.4 million, so you’re better off heading to your local swimming pool to take a dip.
