Michter’s is releasing their latest Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey on a national and international basis this March, the first release of the expression since 2019.

The brand’s US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye was the premium pick in our best rye whiskeys list, but this expression could be even better for the dedicated rye drinker that prefers a powerful glass of whiskey.

“Our team has been turning out some wonderful Kentucky style ryes over the years, and this 2021 release continues that trend,” said Michter’s President, Joseph J. Magliocco, in the announcement.

Michter’s has been waiting on this single barrel collection to mature so it could be released at barrel strength, averaging a proof of 110.3 for each bottle in the collection.

Each of its limited production offerings is aged to peak maturity, including Michter’s highly acclaimed bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey expressions. 

“I was really happy when we tasted these barrels,” said Master Distiller Dan McKee. “This release has so much of what I look for in a rye.”

Currently, all types of Michter’s are being allocated because demand exceeds supply, with these bottles to go on sale in March.

Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson said, “These barrels are at just the right point to highlight the beautiful nuances of a great rye whiskey. This release is a powerhouse.”

As the late, great, Master Distiller Emeritus Willie Pratt says in the clip below, for Michter’s  “it’s all about making the best whiskey possible, damn the cost.”
