Matchless Motorcycle Re-launches Apparel Range
One of Britain’s most celebrated motorcycle brands, Matchless, is due to re-launch its legendary clothing line this June. Alleged to be the United Kingdom’s oldest motorcycle company, Matchless was founded in London by Henry Collier and his brothers in 1899, and swiftly became a standard-bearer for ultra-stylish motorcycle attire amongst bike enthusiasts throughout the last century. The brand won favour in British hearts and minds when a Matchless motorcycle, driven by Charles Collier, won the first Isle of Man TT in 1907. The business recently came under control of Italian brothers Michele and Manuele Malenotti, formerly of iconic motorcycle-apparel brand, Belstaff. The Malenotti family have a history ingrained with luxury biker apparel; their clothing-magnate father is also a confirmed fan of two-wheeled racers. Keen to promote the strong heritage element behind the brand’s illustrious history, the Malenotti brothers have pulled out all the stops with their marketing campaign, appointing Kate Moss as the face of the women’s line, whilst male model Andre Van Noord heads-up the men’s collection. Shot by renowned fashion photographer Terry Richardson, who has worked on editorials for GQ, Vogue, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, the 2013 Matchless campaign shoot was a 1950s-inspired affair photographed at the MC Motors warehouse in Hackney, East London.
“The campaign reflects the heritage of the brand, which we are all excited about sharing with Matchless enthusiasts and consumers alike” Michele Malenotti, Matchless co-director.
