5. Neutral

Walk into any modern builder home, and you’ll see beige walls and beige carpet throughout the dining room, family room, and bedrooms.

There’s a strategic reason for this. Neutrals have abroad appeal, making the homes easier to sell. Consider using this tactic if you plan to sell your home soon.

If you’re afraid of your beige, tan, or cream carpet adding to the plainness, spice up the living room with accents of color. You could arrange brightly colored throw pillows on your sofa. Or hang colorful art on the walls.

6. Rustic

Carpet and the rustic look don’t typically go together. You’re more likely to see wood flooring with a jute rug spread out on it. You can mimic this look by choosing a traditional area rug and laying it over your neutral carpet.

This works well with modern carpet trends that advise layering multiple rugs in a single room. To try out this living room idea in your home, start with a living room carpet that’s neutral.

Then place a large rectangle or square area rug down to cover the majority of the floor. A smaller round rug on top of that one will go under your coffee table to complete the layered look.

7. White

An all-white living room design calls for a white carpet. If you don’t have children or pets, then you could consider this carpet color. However, be very careful about committing to pure white. It’s going to be hard to maintain and keep clean.
