Fred Perry Blank Canvas 1934 Tennis Shoe Collection
Laurel Wreath Label Teams With Five Menswear Stores
Fred Perry has tapped five independent menswear stores to re-create one of the brand’s most popular tennis shoes in time for the final of Wimbledon. Bodega, Hanon, Oi Polloi, Foot Patrol and Firmament have each produced their own take on the 1934 archive style. The collaboration marks eighty years since the brand’s founder had his first win at the London tennis tournament. Oi Polloi, which is based in Perry’s home of Manchester, has produced a fifties-inspred ecru canvas model with matching terry toweling collar. Meanwhile, London retailer Footpatrol delivers the only dark colourway in the lineup, using a jet black suede upper. Global names Firmament and Bodega focused on making the Laurel Wreath logo stand out by featuring contrasting white/green and ginger/red tones. Finally Hanon, best known for its collaborations with other independent companies, took inspiration from another piece of British heritage. According to the Scottish firm, the yellow/black design is a reference to the scooter subculture, in particular the Lambretta GP. The collection, which also includes an original re-issue from Fred Perry, joins a spate of other brands maximising on the event that includes Derek Rose, Murdock London and Puma. Each shoe will be delivered with a biography of Perry, limited edition box, dust bag and four special edition tennis balls. All six are available to buy from the respective stores, as well as online via Fred Perry. Prices start at £65 and go up to £85.
