Among the peaks and crags of the Rocky Mountains, one of the most successful NFL teams has cut out a place of their own. The Denver Broncos, with only six losing seasons in their last 40, call the clouds home.

The team had a rough start with the AFL as charter members, but has since climbed out of the foothills of football history to stand proudly on the face of their own mountainous accomplishments.

With eight AFC Championships and three Super Bowl Championships, they also share the record for most Super Bowl appearances with only three other teams.

Part of their success can be claimed by their unusual location. At their aptly nicknamed “Mile High Stadium”, the Broncos enjoy one of the best home records in the league. High up in the mountains, the air is a little thinner and a sign in the visitor’s locker room is there to remind visiting teams of the uphill battle they’re about to face.

If the elevation doesn’t get to the away team, then the fans will. Sports Authority Field at Mile High is odd among football arenas in that the floors are built of steel. When the fans get riled up (or want to warm up), they’ll start pounding the floors, creating the legendary “Mile High Thunder”, drowning out cheers from the away section and calls from the visiting quarterbacks.
