Vagabund Moto's Custom BMW R nineT Uses 3D Printed Parts

Vagabund Moto has been getting a lot of publicity for their unique builds of late. The Austrian shop has only been in the custom build business for a few years but they continue to impress. The latest creation from founding duo Paul Brauchart and Philipp Rabl really pushes the envelope and finds the company using 3D printed parts.

Tasked by their client to make the best motorcycle they’ve ever done, Vagabund Moto went all out. Starting with a BMW nineT, they based the build on one of their previous custom jobs, transforming a retro BMW R100R into a menacing two-wheeler known as “The Whale.” “It was about reinterpreting ‘The Whale’ with a new 9T,” explains Paul, “and giving it a more modern or futuristic look, consistent with this new motorcycle.”

“All the bodywork was crazy stupid. We hadn’t planned to do an opening system like ‘The Whale,’ because underneath the fuel tank it’s packed with ugly electrics and tech stuff. Stupid as we are, we finally decided to double the work by doing a full aluminum body with a fuel tank, and additionally doing a second mono body over it.”

Vagabund hit-up metalwork master Bernard Naumann to craft the seat unit, monocoque tank, and under-seat storage unit that comes with a custom-built remote cover that slides to reveal the hydraulic shocks. They loved his work so much they named the bike after him, “Tin Man.”

Besides the work complete by Naumann, the rest of the bike is made from parts designed by Vagabund Moto, from the aluminum hinges to the 3D-printed housing for the remote. There’s also a custom ceramic-coated exhaust system, carbon hoop wheels from Rotobox, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires, and clip-on, foot controls, and a rear plate holder are from Rizoma.
