Talisker unveils 43-year-old Xpedition: The Atlantic Challenge
Isle of Skye-based Distillery Talisker has revealed its oldest expressions to date – Talisker 43-Year-Old Xpedition: The Atlantic Challenge.
The 43-year-old Talisker Scotch whisky was drawn from just 10 casks.
It was designed to celebrate the brand’s founding year when the MacAskill brothers rowed from the Isle of Eigg to the Isle of Skye and established the Talisker Distillery.
“This whisky is a sublime single malt that captures the pinnacle of the key aromas of Talisker – spice, sweetness, waxy and creamy, with a sense of the sea spray the morning after the storm,” Talisker senior global brand ambassador Ewan Gunn told The Spirits Business.
“The four decades of maturation have given a full flavor, yet a softness to this bold dram resulting in a rounded and elegant experience.”

Appearance
Deep clear amber. Excellent beading.
Body

Nose
Mellow overall and slightly spicy, with a fruity top note of bruised apple and a smooth, aromatic hint of wax. Beneath these scents lie intriguing rich layers of aroma; notes of canvas and varnished wood mingle with maritime hints of sea air and warm sand, all swirling above a faintly smoky and waxy base.
Palate
A smooth texture and a vibrant, juicy start introduce a sweet, rich, intensity with a fresh, balancing splash of ocean salt spray. The effect becomes lightly drying before Talisker’s peppery warmth envelops the palate. Mesmerizing overall, it cascades with smooth, rich flavor and is excellent to drink neat.
Finish
Wonderfully long, with a considerable sweet chili pepper warmth that suffuses the whole palate.
Only 1,830 bottles have been made of the limited edition single malt, which will be priced at $4,877 USD per 700ml.
The whisky will be available from select retailers globally from June and through malts.com
