Style Tips To Steal From The James Bond Contenders
Rumours have been flying for some time now as to the who will take over from Daniel Craig and suit up as the next 007. Bored of keeping an eye on the bookies to see who Barbara Broccoli’s favourite is, we decided to put together our own battle of the Bonds, from inside their wardrobes. Because, as all the best James Bond films have shown, 007 needs to look the business. Here are some of the best dressed contenders whose style would hold its own against whatever Le Chiffre or Oddjob could throw at them.
Idris Elba – 7/1
From The Front Row, With Love
Long-time Bond favourite Idris Elba knows a thing or two about suiting up, but it’s time his outerwear choices got the credit they deserve, too. Checked outerwear is a huge trend this year and, as always, Elba was one step ahead with this subtle navy and black diamond houndstooth wool coat. The trick to wearing a classic pattern without looking like one of the Old Guard is to mix it up with casual details for a look that’s more Bond, less boring.
Michael Fassbender – 11/4
Dye Another Grey
Despite publicly saying he would never be the tenth Bond, Michael Fassbender’s odds still aren’t slipping. Just as well, then, that the German-born Irish actor knows his way around tailoring as much as the next contender. This dove grey three-piece might be brighter than the usual shades of charcoal, but it looks great on a range of skin tones. As with most suits, the key to wearing lighter colours is expert tailoring. Minimising fabric bulk will give the appearance of a slimmer frame. Just pair with a simple shirt, shoes and tie, and you’ll be 007-ready.
Charlie Hunnam – 40/1
The Living Daylights
Charlie Hunnam may be best known as Sons of Anarchy’s Jax Teller for the time being, but he’s proving his Bond credentials with a knack for bold tailoring that even M wouldn’t question. More vibrant shades of blue aren’t just for ex-gang members and potential future spies, either. To enlist the look, opt for a deep cornflower or petrol hue – both are flattering shades that will mark you out as a style maverick. Perhaps not best for going undercover, though.
