Sony Developing 'Twisted Metal' Live-Action TV Series
As Sony continues to strengthen its grasp on the video game world, the company is now turning its attention to the small screen. PlayStation Productions is already working on the much delayed Uncharted movie and has recently announced the main stars for its adaptation of The Last Of Us. The next game getting the Hollywood treatment is the 90s classic Twisted Metal.
A live-action series of Twisted Metal, an ultra-violent vehicular combat game, is being developed by Sony and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind comedy hits Deadpool and Zombieland. Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) is on board as a writer and producer also.
“Twisted Metal is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation,” said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. “We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans.”
Details are scarce, but the series is believed to center around a fast-talking hustler who is offered a better life if he can deliver a package across a post-apocalyptic America. Aided by a gun-happy car thief, the protagonist will have to deal with all manner of crazies who live in the wastelands outside the major cities.
No cast has been announced, but Will Arnett, who is also a producer, is heavily rumored to take on the role of Sweet Tooth, an evil clown who drives an ice cream truck who features in all the games.
There have been eight main Twisted Metal games in total, with the last coming in 2012. If the show is a success, there’s a good chance the series will get another reboot on the next-gen PlayStation 5.
